SUPPORTING BRITAIN’S FISHERMEN AND WOMEN: LONDON’S OLDEST FISH AND CHIP SHOP OFFERING 50% OFF TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR RNLI AND FISHERMAN’S MISSION

Sailing out to sea and catching quality fish is a difficult job, but without our amazing fishermen we wouldn’t have Britain’s much-loved dish: fish and chips. To thank these men and women, Rock & Sole Plaice, London’s oldest fish and chip shop based in Covent Garden, are coming together with their customers to donate the price of fish & chips all day on Friday 15th September.

Perfectly timed for everyone to enjoy ‘Fish Friday’, diners can enjoy 50% off their fish and chips to takeaway for just £5.75 (normally priced at £11.50) and the lovely chaps at Rock & Sole Plaice will contribute the remaining 50%, all proceeds go to two well-deserving charities: RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea, and Fisherman’s Mission, which supports active and retired fishermen.

Fishing remains the most dangerous peacetime occupation in the UK, and many workers face issues like poverty and injury. What’s more, uncertainty faces the industry and Britain goes through the Brexit negotiations with Europe: a major market for British fish. Fisherman’s Mission offers welfare and emergency support to employees and working with the Fishing Industry Safety Group to make the job safer, they also give support to the families of those fishermen injured or lost at sea. RNLI, meanwhile, trains lifeguards, operates fleets of lifeboats and takes part in flood rescue operations.

Serving that beloved British double act of fish and chips London-style on Endell Street since 1871, Rock & Sole Plaice are still on top of their game in 2017 and their hand-cut chips are known for being the biggest in the country. With a wider circumference, they don’t absorb the peanut oil they’re fried in and never become greasy. There’s a reason this place has stood the test of time.

Why not support our fishermen and women this September, while enjoying a slap-up meal and a slice of London history while you’re at it?
