Hartlepool born Lee Renney loved fishing and the sea with fishing running deep in the family, with brother Michael at the fishing and father Mick at the fishing for many years.
Lee’s life came to a sudden end, aged just 22, on September 2nd, 2016, in a fishing tragedy, just off Hartlepool.
The Fishermen’s Mission was there to offer support, pastoral care and financial assistance to the family. The Fishermen’s Mission is still there for the family today.
Now father Mick, in Lee’s memory, wants to do a sponsored cycle ride for the North Shields Fishermen’s Mission, over the weekend of Friday August 11th – Sunday August 13th. The route is approx. 120 -140 miles long.
This will be a very fitting tribute to Lee Renney. Forever remembered.
Five cyclists are taking part so far, including father and son, Mick and Michael Renney. The route will take them from the fishing port of Whitehaven, where traditionally they will dip their wheels in the Irish Sea, then onto the half way point Alston in Cumbria, where they will stop for one hour. Here there will a strong Fishermen’s Mission presence to welcome the cyclists to their half way point. Then the route will take them eventually to the finish at Fish Sands, Headland, Hartlepool, a short distance from the Hartlepool Fish Quay, where they will dip the wheels in the North Sea. There will be a large crowd at the finish line to greet the very weary cyclists!
Already the fishermen’s mission sponsorship forms are filling up and there Is also a just giving page, see link below for total so far and how to give.

All the proceeds from this event will go to North Shields Fishermen’s Mission which covers the area Amble to Hartlepool and provides a lifeline of welfare and support to fishermen and their families in the North East.
Fishing is the most dangerous peacetime occupation in the UK & Beyond.
Please spread the word and let us make this a Fitting, Lasting tribute to Lee!
