The team from the Harbourside Refuge restaurant in Porthleven, wasted little time in supporting local worthy charities since they opened in mid 2020. Renowned owner, Michelin stared chef, Michael Caines was keen to learn of charities making a difference in the local area. The Fishermen’s Mission provides practical welfare support to active, retired as well as families of fishermen. Fishing is the most dangerous occupation in peacetime and the team are actively in the ports and coves, they are known to the fishing community so there’s a trusted person ready to support, whatever storm from the sea or at home face the fisherman.

The Operations Manager for the Porthleven and Cove restaurant in Maenporth said

“This charity is very close to our hearts at The Harbourside Refuge as we have family and friends who work in the industry. As a small group of restaurants in coastal locations we feel proud to support our fishing industry in Devon and Cornwall who deliver us the freshest bounty from the sea on a daily basis for our talented chefs to prepare for our customers. We will continue to support the Fishermen’s Mission in the future and would like to thank the generosity of all our customers who have dined with us over the past year and contributed to our charity collection, you raised £1,000.”
