Missive for Monday 2nd November 2015
A church marquee sign reads – ‘We should be more concerned with the Rock of Ages, instead of the age of rocks!’
I don’t really have an issue with people who are able to work out how old our planet is, after all the God we serve made it. And it wasn’t just good, it was very good!
But the slogan reminds me of the eternity of a three-in-one Creator, Father, Son and Holy Ghost who made our planet and He will always be here.
As we start a new financial year this very day, as a Mission, doing God’s work in the name of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we will once again face many changes and indeed challenges. There is a saying up here ‘Fit’s afore us winnae ging ahin us’ (for a translation speak to Chris Hirst). We don’t always know what’s in front of us, but we do know that we have an everlasting rock (Isaiah 26:4) who is here to look after us and care for us, in whom we can cast all our cares. When we look back we can see what Jesus has done in our lives and how He has kept, sustained and loved us.
As we start this year, let us look to Jesus our Rock of Ages, in whom we place all our hopes, plans, families, the Mission and the fishermen and their folks that we look after.
On this day, may this Eternal Rock of Ages whom we call Jesus bless and keep you.
