“Salty Cove” a wonderful coffee-table book that epitomises the fishing community of Mevagissey. Over 250 pages of stunning black and white portraits of the villagers and interesting accompanying life stories. A fundraising project for the charity the Fishermen’s Mission. Six volunteers poured in countless hours of skill and dedication to get this book launched and out onto the shelves in June of this year. The only venue to sell the books in Mevagissey is the team from Hurley Books, they are situated just yards away from the harbour.
“Every so often a book comes along which galvanises an entire community and reminds us all of how special that community is. Salty cove is just such a book. We at Hurley Books have been delighted to support this project, raising valuable funds for the Fishermen’s Mission.” Said co-owner of Hurley Books, Steve Hurley.
The enthusiastic team at Hurley Books had a flurry of “Salty Cove” buyers and in just one month, sales meant they could hand over £6,500 to the charity!“It is a living piece of social history, and we’re all so proud of the book, it’s rich content and stunning quality. All of the sales from every book goes directly to the charity as all the costs of printing were sponsored. Two thousand books were made and in one month over 500 have sold already, it’s been a big success. The volunteers have done an incredible job over three years, there hard work is much appreciated. In turn the money will make a difference to fishing families that are supported across Cornwall.” Said Julian Waring, Fundraising Manager for the Fishermen’s Mission
