The Big Dip for Schools
Find out how your primary school can support fishermen around the UK.
Make a splash in the playground!
Take on a chilly challenge for charity whilst your pupils cheer you on. Funds raised will make a measurable difference to the lives of fishermen and their families across the UK. Teachers and staff can take a dip in large tubs or paddling pools.
Free resource and activity packs for KS1 and KS2
Sign your school up to the Big Dip and receive free downloadable resources for KS1 and KS2.
Choose from a variety of specially created activities:
Learn about UK fishing history and heritage, fishing vessels, sea shanties, UK port locations, UK fish species and anatomy, food chains, and how Big Dip funds can make a difference to the lives of fishermen and their families.
Engage learners with our Fishermen’s Mission-inspired story, plus an expert-video taking viewers on a quick guided tour of a vessel.
Learners can have fun completing our fishing word-search, as well as designing and naming fishing boats, creating seafood recipes, and creating your very own fishing-themed school display.
How to take part
Step one: set up your school Dip
Use large tubs or paddling pools in the playground or a school hall for willing teachers to take the dip!
You can run it:
- During break time
- As part of an assembly
- As a one-off school event

Step two: raise funds
Sign up on our Enthuse fundraising page to set up your school Dip challenge – you can ask for small donations from families and pay it into this page to add to our overall total.
Anyone who donates £10 or more through our Enthuse page can receive a Big Dip wristband as a thank you (while stocks last).
Step three: take the Dip
Pick a day during Big Dip week and go for it! Get it done anytime in the first week of October.
It’s quick, chilly, and can be a big laugh for everyone.

Step four: share your Dip (optional)
If you’re happy to:
- Share photos using #TheBigDip
- Tag us on Facebook or Instagram
Do not feel obligated to share photos online, especially when they show children.
Keeping it safe
Remember that we at the Fishermen’s Mission take no responsibility for anything that happens during your Dip. However, we do have some safety tips for schools:
