Gifts in Wills
Show your care for fishing families long into the future. Making a thoughtful decision today will mean no one faces tragedy, hardship, or loss at sea alone
Why include a gift to the UK’s fishermen in your will?
Around one in three people we support can only be helped because someone chose to leave a charitable gift in their will. These gifts help keep fishermen and their families safe: not just today, but for generations to come.

How your gift can help
Fishing remains one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Accidents, sudden illness, and loss at sea can change lives in an instant. A gift in your will helps us to:
After taking care of those closest to you, leaving a gift can be a powerful way to reflect what matters to you.

Your legacy can make a difference
“The pain never really goes away. But the love and care we received made us feel less alone at a time when everything felt dark.”
– Kirsty, fisherman’s niece
Kirsty was just nine years old when her family received the news of her uncle David’s death in November 1992.
In the months that followed, we became a regular presence for Kirsty and her family. We offered practical help, listening, and support as they tried to cope with a sudden and devastating loss. This compassionate support was made possible thanks to gifts in wills.
Leaving a gift in your will is simple
Leaving a gift in your will is straightforward and costs nothing during your lifetime. We recommend using a solicitor or professional will writer to make sure your wishes are clearly recorded.
They will need our charity details:
Charity name: Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen (more generally called The Fishermen’s Mission)
Charity address: Mather House, 4400 Parkway, Whiteley, Fareham, Hampshire. PO15 7FJ
Registered charity numbers: 232822 (England and Wales) and SCO39088 (Scotland)
Three Kinds of gifts

A share of your estate:
A percentage of what remains after other gifts and personal possessions are taken care of. This type of gift keeps pace with inflation and often has the greatest long-term impact.
A fixed sum of money:
A set amount, so you know exactly what will be given.

A specific item:
An item of value such as jewellery or artwork. These are usually sold to fund our work.
Inheritance tax
Inheritance Tax can be complex, so we always recommend seeking professional advice.
Under current UK legislation, gifts left to charity are deducted from the value of your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated. For some estates, this can reduce the amount of tax payable while helping support others.
A solicitor or financial adviser can explain what this may mean for you.
Write your will for free
If you do not yet have a will, you may be eligible to have one written for free through our partnership with the National Free Wills Network.

Keeping in touch with us
Any decision you make about your will is entirely private.
Some people choose to let us know they intend to leave a gift, so we can say thank you and keep them informed about our work. There is no obligation to do so.
