Our Christian Faith
We have always been, and always will be, a Christian charity. Our faith guides everything we do, and we live it out through service to fishing communities across the UK.
Living the Word
Our Christian faith is practical. It shows in daily acts of kindness and service. Just as Christ called fishermen to follow Him, today we go to them with friendship, compassion, and hope. Everyone is welcome with us. Our support is for fishermen and their families whatever their beliefs, with no judgement.
Our faith in action
Alongside our daily work, we are part of special moments in the lives of fishing communities, including times of blessing, remembrance, and prayer.

Blessings of fleets
At harbours around the country, we join local churches and communities to bless fleets and pray for good seasons and safe returns. These annual traditions bring people together to celebrate and honour our fishermen.
Funeral services and memorials
We are here to support fishermen’s families during times of loss. Our Port Staff can help with funeral arrangements and remembrance services.

National Fishing Remembrance Day
Each year, we remember all fishermen who have left our lives, especially those lost at sea. National Fishing Remembrance Day services take place across the UK on the second Sunday in May.
Staff prayer time
Every week, our staff come together online to pray for our work and our communities. We welcome congregations and individuals to pray alongside us through our Prayer Calendar.
“At the Fishermen’s Mission we have faith as our foundation. It is the cornerstone on which the organisation is built.”
– Rev. George Aoyama, Mission Pastor

Our connection to community
We are part of a global Christian network supporting those who work at sea.

As a full member of the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA), we work alongside 27 Christian charities caring for fishermen, seafarers, and their families around the world. We also serve on ICMA’s United Kingdom and Ireland Committee.

Our hope for the future
We are stronger together. Your support means we can continue to follow the teachings of Christ through practical care and compassion for fishermen and their families.
