Volunteer for Us

Being a part of the change is important to us. We work with volunteers who care.

Cancer Community Champion Volunteer

Being a Cancer Community Champion Volunteer is a simple but powerful way to help protect the health of fishermen and their families. By sharing trusted information and encouraging early action, you’ll help break down barriers around cancer awareness within the fishing community.

About the role

You will support the C Aware programme by making a personal pledge to share cancer awareness in everyday settings. This role is flexible and designed to fit around your life, whether that’s time spent on the quayside, at sea, at home, or with friends and colleagues.

About you

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and experiences. You don’t need medical knowledge or public speaking experience. What matters most is your willingness to start conversations and share reliable information.

Key responsibilities

  • share cancer awareness information with family, friends, and colleagues
  • encourage people you know to take up early cancer screening when they are invited
  • distribute cancer information – such as leaflets – to fishermen in your community
  • signpost people to cancer health services and support
  • share Macmillan Cancer Support information with those who might need it
  • contribute ideas and feedback to help us improve C Aware.

What we offer

  • a free Cancer Champion Awareness session to get you started
  • clear information and resources
  • ongoing support from the C Aware team
  • a flexible volunteering role that fits around your life
  • the opportunity to make a meaningful difference within your community
