Volunteer for Us

Being a part of the change is important to us. We work with volunteers who care.

Charity Shop Assistant

Support fishermen and their families practically and locally. Every hour you give helps us continue offering care, compassion, and support to fishing communities. The Helston Fishermen’s Mission Charity Shop is our only physical store, making it a special place for both the Helston community and us.

About the role

You will be part of a friendly, supportive team of volunteers and permanent Fishermen’s Mission staff. You will help the shop run smoothly on shifts you will work between Monday and Saturday. No two shifts are the same, and every task you take on helps keep our work going.

One unique part of this role is supporting our Posh Room, where we offer formal wear by appointment. Volunteers help visitors feel comfortable, supported, and confident as they find outfits for important moments in their lives.

About you

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and experiences. You do not need previous retail experience – just a friendly manner, a willingness to help, and an interest in supporting our charity. We provide induction, guidance, and ongoing support. What matters most is your enthusiasm and your willingness to help.

  • talking to customers about the Fishermen’s Mission and the work we do
  • supporting the Posh Room by helping visitors find formal wear during appointments in a respectful and comfortable experience

What we offer

  • a warm welcome into a supportive team
  • full induction and ongoing guidance
  • flexible volunteering shifts to suit your availability
  • reimbursement of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, agreed in advance
  • the opportunity to build confidence, learn new skills, and meet new people
  • the satisfaction of knowing your time directly supports fishermen and their families
