C Aware Nominated for Initiative of the Year at the Fishing News Awards!
Just shy of its first anniversary, our C Aware programme – in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support – received a nomination for Initiative of the Year in the 2025 Fishing News Awards!
We could not be more thrilled to have this national recognition for the incredible work of our C Aware team and the impact they’ve had on the North Shields fishing community.
What is C Aware?
C Aware brings cancer awareness, information, and support directly to fishermen and their families — right where they are.
Whether it’s through quiet conversations at the harbour, helpful symptom cards, or podcast episodes answering real questions from the fishing community, C Aware:
- Encourages early detection and treatment
- Breaks down stigma and fear around cancer conversations
- Makes vital information accessible for those who often work in isolated and tough conditions
It’s trusted, practical support — built for life at sea.
Why This Nomination Matters
Fishing is still the UK’s most dangerous peacetime occupation. Access to healthcare and support isn’t always easy for those who spend long days at sea. C Aware is making a difference.
This nomination shows that people recognise the important conversations our team is having out on the quayside and that we are making a real difference.
