This year, in 2021, the Fishermen’s Mission is 140 years old. Early last year, the Fishermen’s Mission Association member, Captain Paul Quinn OBE, offered to write a hymn to mark our special birthday and he engaged the assistance of a director of music at the Royal Marines’ School of Music, Elizabeth Le Grove, to compose the music. The outcome of their generous endeavours is the hymn: ‘Headmark for Home’.
The hymn was kindly sung, and recorded by Portsmouth Cathedral, as arranged by Mission Area Officer South East England, Ruth Charles. The Portsmouth Cathedral Choir performed a fantastic rendition of the hymn, which can be found on the Fishermen’s Mission YouTube via this link: https://youtu.be/0QllLds7YfU. This hymn will feature in our celebratory thanksgiving service in November.
We are most grateful to Paul Quinn OBE for writing the words to the hymn, and Elizabeth Le Grove who composed the wonderful music and generously gifted her work to the Fishermen’s Mission. Many thanks also to Joseph Keele-Toms for recording the Portsmouth Cathedral Choir video and to Dr David Price, Organist and Master of Choristers for Portsmouth Cathedral, Cathedral of the Sea.
