Troon Harbour Blessing, the eighth year the event has been organised and getting bigger each year, with over two hundred people in attendance.
Troon Churches Together arranged for the celebrants, with Reverend David Prentice-Hyers of Troon Old Parish Church leading the celebration, Pastor David Rudge of the Church of the Nazarene supporting and our own Very Reverend David W. Lacy leading the actual blessing of the harbour.
Seth Koranteng, one of the local fishermen from Ghana, read the Fishermen’s Prayer on behalf of our fishermen.
The Hutchison family and friends played for us, with Joseph
Hutchison performing a beautiful solo of ‘Lord, You Have Come to the Seashore’.
David Moore, choirmaster of Troon Old Parish played a moving violin rendition of ‘The Heroes of Longhope’.
The crew of Troon lifeboat, led by coxswain Joe Millar, were in attendance to bring the lifeboat into the harbour for the blessing of the fleet.
Local businesses gave wonderful support, with John McCallum of’The Wee Hurrie’ providing Fritto Misto with all the trimmings for all (special thanks to Nick, their chef), and Michael Mancini of ‘The Ice Cream Factory’ providing delicious home-made ice cream for everyone. ‘The Pier’ fish shop supplied drinks and seafood, while SB Fish were tremendously supportive in providing transport and manpower to help set up the event.
GB Sounds supplied and set up the sound system, making such a difference! Thanks too to Associated British Ports for their ongoing support and for setting up safety barriers at the harbourside.
Thank you to all the people that were involved in what is an ever more popular and well-attended community event!
