“I am very proud to be at the helm of a caring and wholly inclusive organisation that superbly supports each and every active and former fisherman and their families.”

The fishermen I’ve met are incredible. They often appear immune to the long hours, austere working conditions, physicality, and inherent dangers of a job conducted whilst being exposed to extreme and volatile weather conditions. Their passion for fishing runs deep and keeps them going in the face of adversity.

“I joined the Fishermen’s Mission after a long and rewarding career in the Royal Navy. Remaining in the maritime sector was important to me and the Fishermen’s Mission is as close to a second home as I can get.
“My first 100 days have seen me visit fishing ports around the UK. From the impressive pelagic ships operating out of Peterhead and Fraserburgh, to the more traditional vessels in Brixham and Newlyn, and the beach-launched vessels in Selsey and Hastings. I have been struck by the commitment all fishermen have for their industry regardless of the enormity of some of the challenges they face to make enough money just to support their families.

“In every port, I have met our incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic staff who ‘do their thing’ with the same passion that the fishermen have for their work. I am very proud to be at the helm of a caring and wholly inclusive organisation that superbly supports each and every active and former fisherman and their families.

“The Fishermen’s Mission has been in the heart of the communities we serve for over 140 years, building
levels of trust and assurance. However, the truth is that without you – our supporters, volunteers, and donors
– we simply could not operate. We are truly grateful for your continuing and overwhelming responses to our Network appeals. Every penny given makes such a difference for our fishermen and their families going through tough times. Thank you!

“This has been a tremendously exciting and rewarding first 100 days in post. I am privileged to lead a caring and dedicated team, working tirelessly in support of our fishing communities around the British Isles.”
